Configure bridges with static IP addresses

Perform this configuration only in case your IT department requires the use of specific IP addresses for devices connected to your network for security reasons.

This article provides step-by-step instructions for assigning a static IP address to a Sensorfact bridge. To complete this process, you will need the following:

Prerequisites:

  • PC or Laptop
  • Sensorfact Bridges
  • A USB flash drive (FAT32 formatted); preferably blank
  • IP-addresses

Configuration steps

  1. Prepare the USB Flash Drive:
    1. Insert the USB flash drive into your PC or laptop.
    2. Format the drive as FAT32 if it is not already formatted that way.
    3. Ensure the drive is blank or contains no important data.
  2. Create the Configuration File:
    1. Determine the connection type for the bridge (WiFi or Ethernet).
    2. Create a new text file on the USB flash drive:
      1. For WiFi, named the file 'wifi-ip-XXXX.txt'
      2. For ethernet, named 'ethernet-ip-XXXX.txt'
    3. Replace XXXX with the last four characters of the bridge ID. For example, if your bridge ID is ‘82DF’, your file names would be ‘wifi-ip-82DF.txt’  or ‘ethernet-ip-82DF.txt’.
  3. Locate the Bridge ID:
    1. The bridge ID can be found on the sticker attached to the bridge device.
  4. Edit the Configuration File:
    1. Open the text file you created in a text editor.
      Example Configuration:
      192.168.1.10/255.255.255.0
      192.168.1.1
      8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
Important Notes:
    1. Do not use IP addresses within the 10.3.x.x range, as this range is reserved for the Sensorfact platform.
    2. Avoid adding extra spaces in other parts of the text file, as this may cause configuration errors.

Final Steps: Once the configuration is complete, the bridge will use the assigned static IP address for network communication.
